In the bustling city of Tel Aviv, a group of individuals has dedicated themselves to spreading joy and kindness to those most in need. Led by JLIC Tel Aviv, the community has embarked on a mission to provide Mishloach Manot and Matanot L’Evyonim gift packages to various marginalized groups across the city.

Since October 7th, JLIC Tel Aviv, supported by friends worldwide, has been actively meeting the needs of thousands of individuals and families. This year, with the unprecedented growth in demand for assistance, their efforts have become even more crucial.

Their Purim initiative aims to bring comfort and joy to several groups, including evacuee families residing in Tel Aviv hotels, hostage families and volunteers at Kikar Hatufim, Tel Aviv Shoah survivors, and individuals experiencing homelessness in the city. Additionally, they plan to provide financial support to evacuee families and organize a grand carnival for evacuee children, spreading the festive spirit of Purim far and wide.

The heart of their initiative lies in the concept of giving back. Rav Joe Wolfson, reflecting on their longstanding tradition of aiding the homeless during Purim, emphasized the importance of empathy and practical support. The care packages, filled with essential items and thoughtfully packaged in reusable tote bags, serve as a symbol of solidarity and compassion.

The involvement of children adds a poignant layer to the initiative. Sara Guggenheim, who oversees activities at the hotels, recounted a recent art session where children decorated bags for those experiencing homelessness. Amidst the challenges of war and displacement, the children found solace in the act of giving, transforming into budding philanthropists.

As the children poured their creativity into the bags, their parents joined in, moved by the opportunity to contribute. What began as a simple activity evolved into a profound experience of community and shared humanity. Mothers meticulously crafted bags and penned heartfelt notes, embodying the spirit of giving and compassion.

In a world often marked by division and hardship, initiatives like JLIC Tel Aviv Matanot L’Evyonim offer a glimmer of hope and solidarity. Through their actions, they remind us of the transformative power of empathy and kindness, transcending boundaries and bringing communities together.

This Purim, let us not forget those who may be less fortunate. Let us heed the call to generosity and compassion, following in the footsteps of JLIC Tel Aviv as they continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Together, let us spread joy and kindness, ensuring that no one is forgotten or left behind.

In the words of the Israeli blessing, “שתמיד תהיה בצד הנותן” – may we always be on the side of the giver, extending a hand of support and solidarity to those who need it most.
