Tu B’Shvat, also known as the New Year for Trees, is a celebration of trees and fruits that holds a special place in the hearts of many communities around the world. This year, the JLIC (Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus) communities joined in the festivities, organizing unique events to mark this environmentally-conscious occasion. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the Tu B’Shvat events held across JLIC, where trees, fruits, and heartwarming stories took center stage.
JLIC Jerusalem Community
The JLIC Jerusalem Community kicked off their Tu B’Shvat celebration with a special seder hosted at the JLIC Co-Directors Jerremy and Emily Tibbetts home. Participants gathered to reflect on the significance of trees and share in the joy of partaking in the abundance of nature. The atmosphere was festive, with laughter and discussions.
JLIC Community in Herzliya
In Herzliya, the JLIC community embraced the spirit of Tu B’Shvat with a unique twist. They hosted a Tu B’Shvat seder followed by a “Bracha Bee” – adding an element of learning to the celebration of trees and fruits.
Special Guest
Following the fruit-filled festivities, 40 students had the privilege of hearing a remarkable story of resilience and strength. A survivor of the October 7th terrorist attack on Israel, the guest speaker from Kfar Aza shared his harrowing yet inspiring journey since that fateful day. The room was filled with a mix of emotions, from somber reflection to renewed determination to make the world a better place.
