The JLIC Mizrachi Herzliya community experienced a remarkable milestone this semester, showcasing its incredible journey of growth and connection. What began eight years ago as a modest gathering of several dozen students in a JLIC director’s apartment had blossomed into a vibrant, dynamic community that continues to thrive and expand.
The community’s remarkable growth is evident in the numbers. Hundreds of new residents pour into Herzliya each year, with many of the 700 fresh students from Reichman University’s Raphael Recanati International School eagerly participating in JLIC Mizrachi Herzliya’s welcoming events. Young professionals and post-graduates find themselves drawn to the community’s warm atmosphere, strategic location, and inviting lifestyle.
On a memorable Shabbat evening marking the semester’s start, the community demonstrated its inclusive spirit by hosting a dinner that brought together 160 newcomers. The event took place on November 1st and became even more special with the attendance of Yariv Fisher, Herzliya’s mayor, and his Chief of Staff, Alex Goldshteyn, who were keen to experience the community’s unique magic firsthand.
The dinner provided a powerful platform for connection. Community members shared deeply personal stories about their journeys—many having arrived in Israel independently, without family, and finding a sense of belonging through JLIC Mizrachi Herzliya. Some attendees even discussed their experiences serving in the IDF during the current conflict, adding depth and significance to the evening.
The Mayor’s address resonated deeply with the young crowd. He candidly shared his own near-miss of studying abroad, a choice many in the room had made before opting to study in Israel. His message was clear and compassionate: despite the challenging times, the city wanted these young individuals to feel truly at home.
The Shabbat dinner embodied more than just a welcome event. It represented a microcosm of community building—a testament to the power of connection, shared experiences, and support. By bringing together new residents, community leaders, and city officials, JLIC Mizrachi Herzliya demonstrated its commitment to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment.
As the evening drew to a close, it was evident that this community was more than just a collection of individuals. It was a living, breathing ecosystem of support, growth, and shared dreams—a beacon of hope and unity in challenging times.
